President’s Report

Greetings All,

With Superfest on everyone’s mind, the Board Of Directors met in emergency session. It was decided to move to the East Peoria Event Center. It’s not an ideal venue but it fits the need for a hamfest. Preparations for Superfest 2022 are already in the works.

Jamboree on the Air (JOTA21): We are still in the preliminary planning phases for JOTA 21 at Ingersoll Scout Reservation reservation. I will be scheduling a zoom meeting with William D. Boyce Council executives and district staff and camp staff sometime in the third week of August.

The August club meeting is something different, Guest speaker Sgt. Cliff from Air National Guard will speak on emergency comms. Location to be determined. Stay tuned to Facebook for further announcements.

Till next time 73. We’re all in this together.

SuperFest

With having to find a new venue after the damage to the Avanti’s Dome, we are really going to need help this year. Here are a few of the items we are going to need help with: on Thursday marking the flea market; Friday gate and flea market sales, set up and helping vendors load in; Saturday gate and flea market sales, possible vendor assistance loading in/setting up for a short time, forums, prizes, testing and a vendor liaison; Sunday gate and flea market sales, prizes (especially for the rapid fire), a vendor liaison, helping vendors load out and clean-up.

Please plan on helping for at least a few hours on one or more of these days. Remember Superfest pays for the activities we want to do as a club and for our tower rental, your help is needed and appreciated.

If you know of anyone who has a food truck and would like to provide their service, have them contact Deb at WD9EB@arrl.net.

The next Superfest meeting is Thursday August 26th, if you would like to participate and normally don’t, send an email to Deb.

President’s Report

Greetings All,
Field Day 2021 Recap:

Ingersoll Scout Reservation.
I was really saddened, having to cancel field day at Ingersoll Scout Reservation, but after being in contact with the camp staff, we felt it was the best decision.  Let’s switch our focus to Jamboree on the air in October.  More details will be announced.

Shops at Grand Prairie.
Another successful field day is part of history.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and resources and to all who attended.  It was a great time for camaraderie and fellowship in the hobby. Justin, N9WX, job well done.

Personally once I got the glitches with my to go digital portable station fixed, it ran flawlessly.

July Fox Hunt & antenna build.
It’s survey time,  let’s pick a location maybe Forest Park nature center, Bradley Park, Three Sisters Park just to name a few locations. The main rule is it must be on public land. The location with the most vote wins. Email your suggestion to: k9cew@arrl.net

Ham in a day classes
A special thank you to Joe KB9EZZ & Justin N9WX for organizing this project. This is getting a lot of interaction on the clubs Facebook page. For more information about ham in a day, read the information page by clicking here or contact VP Justin N9WX.

PAARC Superfest
Superfest is gaining a lot of attention and social media interaction. Deb and the Superfest committee have brought their A game. This has all the makings of being the club’s most successful Superfest to date.  More announcements to follow.

Thanks to the generosity of member Darren KD9HZZ, we have Club sticker’s & magnets available for purchase. 1) sticker & 1) magnet for $3.50

We are all in this together,
73,
Craig

President’s Report

Hi all,

Last month Scott Tranchitella K9XJT gave an excellent presentation on APRSLINK. Thank you Scott!

It’s time for field day! The logistics of doing two field day sites has me pulling out my gray hair!
For info about the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, contact Justin Flick N9WX. Also, a special thank you to Justin for taking the lead at the club’s main site at the Shoppes.

PAARC hasn’t had a Fox Hunt in a while, so the Board and fellow members thought that it would be fun to start planning as Covid-19 restrictions allow. Hopefully it will be fun, and not too difficult. If it goes well, and everyone enjoys it, we can plan a larger, multi-transmitter event for later in the year. You’ll need a Yagi antenna, so a tape measure Yagi will be our next project build. That project will be sometime this summer, Details to TBA.

Do you have questions about how to program a radio, interested about digital modes? Join us for Elmer net immediately after the Sunday night net.

And finally a surprise. I’ve been given the green light for Jamboree on the Air, from the Boy Scouts WD Boyce Council. I have reached out to a area clubs, and was pleasantly surprised for the amount of support for radio scouting! The dates are Oct. 15th to Oct. 17th and you can check out this ARRL page for more information on JOTA. We are still in our preliminary planning more details to be announced.

In Remembrance of Memorial Day:

We salute you today, for the sacrifice you paid.
You served in honor and we will never forget
that you were strong and brave.
I came to visit you, To place this flag upon your grave
To just say thank you on this Memorial Day

President’s Message

Hello All,
It’s about that time of year for ARRL Field Day! The BOD has been working behind the scenes planning a spectacular Field Day and I’m pleased to announce, that the club will be operating 2 Field Day sites!
1st site. Shops at Grand Prairie promoting the public safety and emergency service community outreach parts of amateur radio.
2nd Site. Ingersoll Scout Reservation. One day operation, focus on youth & scouting involvement. I personally am very excited to be building a relationship with W.D. Boyce council for the future. More announcements to come.
What is Field Day? It is ham radio’s open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science (source ARRL).

April 2021 BandBits

President’s Message

Hello all,
Let’s welcome our newest members to join our ranks and share their interest in the hobby. If someone is in need of information regarding amateur radio, PAARC is where they should go. We are very fortunate to have knowledgeable Elmer’s and members! Bringing in hams that are new to amateur radio as well as some that may be returning is a goal we should all explore. What makes PAARC unique is that we are a “Hands On” club, even in the middle of a pandemic that has presented its own challenges, We still found a way.   My goals as President, Is to support all hams, old & new, to become active and grow in their ham radio hobby.
I’d like to thank Rich KD9ANU, for coming up with and hosting Elmer Hour after the Sunday night net, also thanks to the hams who submitting questions & answering questions. Let’s keep this going!
If there’s a topic on a presentation you like to see, or speak on a topic let us know! I really enjoyed participating and answering questions about getting started with digital modes. I’m excited to be giving a presentation about setting up an HF Station for Digital modes.
Unfortunately I was unable to attend Justin’s (N9WX) Presentation on Hamshack Hotline, I did watch online later, it was a great presentation! A special thank you to Justin for stepping in at the last moment.
  Till Next time 73′
