President’s Message
Spring training, and not just for the Chicago Cubs! PAARC is once again proud to sponsor a NWS weather spotter class – Tuesday, April 1 from 6:30 – 8:30pm at the Bartonville American Legion Hall, 4501 S Airport Rd, Bartonville. The training is free and open to all members of the public. And if you can’t make it to our sessions, there are many other ones, see the full list at https://www.weather.gov/ilx/spotter
The training session will be our April club meeting and we will also have our monthly board meeting beforehand. And you can always find a calendar of the PAARC meetings at https://www.w9uvi.org/ all club members are welcome to attend.
The board is also working on setting up some club outings doing site visits and tours, let us know where you want to go! First up, we are working on setting up a date and time for a tour of the WTVP and WCBU transmitter site.
Speaking of weather and antennas, as the weather gets nicer and you go out to work on your antennas, be safe!
Oh, and if you would like to have your shack featured in and upcoming ‘Show Off Your Shack’ bit, just send some pics and a quick word of what you’re running. you can submit those to the club email w9uvi.paarc@gmail.com.Let’s see those setups!
This is YOUR club, have some fun with it.

Show Off Your Shack
Send us photos and a description of your shack.
Ben Knapp, KD9RYH

Not just a ham shack, but it’s also a work from home office. I do have to thank my wife KD9YPM and Andy K9DAY for all the help getting things setup and going.
As you can see, I have an Icom 9700 and 7300 setup as my base station radios. I also run a Vero VR-N7500 for access to the Tazewell EMA

frequencies. it’s hard to see, but sitting on the desk is a Whistler TRX1 scanner that is connected to one of the antennas on the tower. Speaking of, it’s a 30 foot tower with a Comet tri-band on top. There is a dual-band copper J-pole and a small ground plane wide band antenna for the scanner. Not on the tower is an Antron A99 10meter antenna that is setup on the end of the garage. I still have to work on getting an HF antenna up. I have a 40 meter dipole and a 10-80 end feed half wave. Shacks are always a work in progress and I’ve only been in this space for less than a year at this point.
